Encumbrance refers to how bogged down you are from all the shit you're carrying. The more things you have in your inventory weighing you down, the more encumbered you are. Your encumbrance can be viewed at the bottom of the [[inventory]] screen.


* If you pickup more weight than you are capable of carrying, you will be unable to move.
* Moving while encumbered is tiring, and you will frequently get stiff muscles.
* The more encumbered you are, the slower you move. When carrying a lot of stuff you will start to notice that it takes longer to move between the grid squares of the map.
* Being encumbered makes it more difficult to swim for obvious reasons.
On the bright side, there is a positive effect of being encumbered: while moving around encumbered, you will slowly gain IP in brawn. Note that although this is an easy way to grind brawn, it is very slow. Lifting weights at the gym is a much faster way to grind brawn (unless of course you have already reached your gym training limit).
