Whips is a weapon skill that relies on reflexes and senses. They are less viable in the end game then most weapons. (Arguable)
Advantages
Most of them are fast, with the highest end ones falling into this category. Also, the better ones do elemental damage, with the electric damage on blacklashes and flash whips being super keen. Since you'll be raising reflexes and senses for these, you'll have pretty good dodge. Senses is also a secondary brainy character stat, and whips are often used by those types for the mediocrum of combat they will engage in, especially since you don't really need to worry about brawn. If you invest in some endurance you could have a lot of potential to be a stupid focus elf jerk.
Disadvantages
They do shit damages. Every other weapon class has about twice as much damage potential as whips. They tend to only have mediocre critical, so if somebody does put on some silly elemental resistance gear, you are fucked. Also, the elemental damage won't do you any good in PvE, where every high-end mob soaks everything well. Most of them are parry class one.
Weapons
- Electric cord - Shitty weapon that you can scavenge in Gangland. It's your fork, poopsock your whip raw with it.
- Riding crop - Buyable in the Giggling Schoolgirl, it's basically a sexy alternative for poopsocking.
- Antenna whip - Buyable from Ammunation, it's pretty good for crappy starter weapon. Does piddling amounts of slash and beat damage, and horrible critical, but it's quick. Even though it's cheaper now, you still shouldn't blow money on it when you can get a...
- Leather whip - It's an antenna whip +1, it's slightly better in every way. They are crafted, ask around for these, since you can basically get one for free.
- Link whip - Does beat damage, you will probably never touch one.
- Venomous lash - Also crafted, with the recipe hidden somewhere. It does the rare acid damage and some slash, but it's slow as shit and less accurate than previous whips. Acid damage is useful for breaking into things, you might want to keep on in your pack for that purpose.
- Flame chain - Good stuff. A mob that you probably can't kill when you first want to get one drops these. The only two handed PC2 whip at the moment. Does flame and beat damage. They're a little slow, and you need some brawn (not much) to max out the damage.
- Blacklash - Craftable. Does shittier damage than flame chains, but some of that damage is ELECTRIC (and some slash). Real fast. Outclassed by...
- Flash whip - Blacklash without the crap slash damage and more volts/amps. Does as much electric damage as flame chains do fire (max of 20! Holy fuck!). Also faster and more accurate than blacklashes. You want these.
See Weaponry for additional stats.
Mods slots
- Elemental - Either the butane or shock mod. Put butane on your flame chains and shock on your electric whips, you need them lower the chance of "X's whip bounces off Y's skin!" messages in combat.
- Grip - Gyro, balanced, and loltape. 420 install balanced grips every whip, everybody likes faster speed.
- Unique whip mods - The tentacle and ninetails mods. Tentacle does a little of the super keen mostly unsoakable bleeding damage, and the ninetails gives a slightly better slash damage bonus. If you do things right you can have both of them on the same weapon! Wow!
- The EMP mod slot - Hello I am the EMP mod, I make your weapon harder to repair. Ghosts take flame and shock damage from flame chains and flash whips so the EMP mod is
fairlytotally useless.
Strategy
- PvE - Get a flame chain and as much dodge as you can muster. Powerattack everything until it dies, nothing will hit you.
- PvP - Get a flash whip, hope your opponent doesn't prepare for it/gank them.
