Salamander is, as stated before, easy to reach, and grants high bonuses to both climb and swim. It also grants the ability to {{cmd|mend}}, which is useful for quick healing and fixing broken bones (for players with broken legs and/or a low medical skill).
* +4 climb and swim helps people get around, especially low-endurance builds.
* The mutation is very easy to reach in the early game, which is when many players will need its mobility most.
* The {{cmd|mend}} ability burst-heals about 6 health, which can save your life from bad bleeds and boost your self-healing.
* Mend also fixes broken bones, so no medic is required for insta-casts.
* Mend serves as an excellent self-heal and stress-heal for [[hideous freak|freaks]], who can spam it on cooldown.

Taking Salamander results in a -1 to [[craft]]; however, as a loss of a point in craft isn't very damaging to most players due to their reliance on others to do the job (usually in exchange for cash), this is considered a negligible disadvantage at best.
* Mend requires about 15+ focus to use consistently and has a high stress cost. It also has a long {{cmd|cooldown}}, though this becomes shorter with higher focus.
* At low focus, the casting time for mend is quite long.

Mend heals around 6 health and repairs broken bones when used, at the cost of a large stress hit. It uses the focus skill. It has a long cooldown and a long cast time, though both of these decrease substantially with higher focus.

When used, the user gains a large amount of stress and makes a focus roll. If successful, any broken limbs the user has will be mended, along with the possibility of being healing up to 6 hp based on how high their focus stat is (needs confirmation). If failed, you may lose hp, depending on how badly you rolled. You will also fail if you have 100% hp and no broken bones to mend, resulting in damage and a lot of stress.
Mend requires around 15-17 focus to use consistently. If it fails, the player will gain stress and restore no health. It will automatically fail if used at full health with no broken bones.

Salamander is a focus mutation often chosen by players for its low-cost utility and mobility boosts.

Location

Salamander is located in the Toxic Cave on the Shoreline. The entrance is guarded by Gator Boy, who is slightly stronger than the crackheads in the crack mansion.

Effects

This mutation grants:

    +4 to swim
    +4 to climb
    +1 to focus
    -1 to craft
    The mend ability

Advantages

  • +4 climb and swim helps people get around, especially low-endurance builds.
  • The mutation is very easy to reach in the early game, which is when many players will need its mobility most.
  • The mend ability burst-heals about 6 health, which can save your life from bad bleeds and boost your self-healing.
  • Mend also fixes broken bones, so no medic is required for insta-casts.
  • Mend serves as an excellent self-heal and stress-heal for freaks, who can spam it on cooldown.

Disadvantages

  • -1 craft. This is negligible; it's very easy to get enough craft to build most things in the game anyway.
  • Mend requires about 15+ focus to use consistently and has a high stress cost. It also has a long cooldown, though this becomes shorter with higher focus.
  • At low focus, the casting time for mend is quite long.

Mend

Mend heals around 6 health and repairs broken bones when used, at the cost of a large stress hit. It uses the focus skill. It has a long cooldown and a long cast time, though both of these decrease substantially with higher focus.

Mend requires around 15-17 focus to use consistently. If it fails, the player will gain stress and restore no health. It will automatically fail if used at full health with no broken bones.

Message Upon Use:

You empty your mind, letting your focus flow into your limbs...
<Name> bows his/her head and breathes deeply, extending his/her limbs.

Message Upon Success:

You feel your wounds pulling together. Kinda itches.

Message Upon Failure:

You couldn't focus due to stress

Message if uninjured (note: you still gain stress):

There's nothing wrong with you that your mending powers could heal.

Appearance

After mutation you will be given an additional line to your description:

   He/She has webbed fingers.
