There's a lot of stuff in HellMOO that's pulled from other sources, as either homages or just references. This page is an attempt to figure out all of them.

1984

There are Anti-Sex flyers scattered around the world, possibly referring to the Anti-Sex organization in George Orwell's novel.

Alien

The Weyland-Utani corporation that runs corpclave is named after the megacorp in Alien, Weyland Yutani. The chest bursters that abominations produce are from the series, born when face huggers implant eggs in the victim orally. "You've seen Aliens" and "You've seen Aliens twice" are also blurbs for levels of skill in Rifle.

The Big Lebowski

The man working at Ammu-Nation is based on and named after Walter Sobchak, the angry war veteran in the movie. Donny, the man who runs the mod store above it is also from this movie.

Blade Runner

Although the Bradbury is a real building, the version in HellMOO is based on the cyberpunk rendition of it in Blade Runner.

The Blade Trilogy

Blade is one of the many vampire hunters that wander Slagtown.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer

She's also a slagtown vampire hunter.

Carrie

A mutation that allows you to light stuff on fire, just like the main character of the book.

Castlevania

The major vampire hunter, Tyrone Belmont, takes his last name from the group of protagonists in this videogame series. He even rambles on about Richter Belmont defeating Dracula, which is a major part of the plot in the game "Castlevania: Symphony of the Night." On top of that, he carries around the Vampire Killer, which is the whip used in the games. Also, having a high whip skill (of around 20 total) will state "Simon Belmont" in the score menu.

C.H.U.D.

The sewers are occupied by monsters based on the titular creatures from the movie.

The Church of Scientology

The SpaceOrg building is based on the SeaOrg branch of the controversial church of scientology. Also, One of the NPCs inside, L. Ron Hubbard, is a direct reference to the church's founder of same name.
